Syria's heritage under threat

This is a photo of the Roman city of Apamea, taken in 2009.  It can be found not far from Hama in central Syria.  The collonade is nearly two kilometres long.

Emma Cunliffe of Durham University has reviewed the extensive damage to Syria's cultural heritage.  Emma completed her work in May 2012.  Since then matters have got even worse - only last week part of the old City of Aleppo, a World Heritage Site, was consumed by fire amidst the fighting.

Her report was conducted on behalf of the Global Heritage Fund and is at http://ghn.globalheritagefund.com/uploads/documents/document_2107.pdf
